Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer after lung cancer - around 16,000 people a year. There are very few symptoms, but if it-s caught early enough the chances of a successful outcome are greatly increased. That's why it's a good idea to do a screening test in the privacy of your own home.
Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
The over 45/50s are the most vulnerable: 9 out of 10 people who develop bowel cancer are in this age group. There's now a National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, launched in England in April 2006, phasing in over 3 years, aimed at people 60-69. In Scotland it will be introduced in March 2007 for people aged 50-74. But why wait? The programme only covers certain areas at the moment, and for less than twenty pounds you can take the initiative yourself using the same kind of test.
Faecal Occult Blood Test
Our Bowel Cancer Test Kit checks for occult (hidden) blood in the stool, which can be an early sign of bowel problems including bowel cancer. If pre-cancerous polyps are present in the bowel, they often bleed, but in such tiny amounts you wouldn't normally see it. Using the Hemoccult II test - the world's leading faecal occult blood test - the lab tests 2 samples taken daily on 3 different days within a 10 day period.
Results in 10 Days
The Bowel Cancer Test Kit comes with detailed instructions and an information leaflet, plus everything you need to send the samples to the lab. You will receive your results within 10 days. Bear in mind that a positive result doesn't necessarily mean anything serious - but we strongly recommend that you see your doctor for further investigation.
£1 from every kit sold goes directly to cancer research.
