Early prostate cancers often cause no symptoms. Due to the fact that the prostate surrounds part of the urethra, if the prostate becomes too big for any reason it can affect urination and this is an important general symptom to be aware of.
| Symptoms relating to the process of urinating include: - problems starting urination
- problems with urinating such as interrupted flow, weak flow
- increased frequency of urinating particularly noticeable at night
- pain when urinating
- blood in the urine
Other symptoms include: - problems having an erection
- pain during ejaculation
- blood in the semen
- persistent pain in the lower back and hips
|
Prostate cancer can potentially cause any of the above symptoms but it is important to remember that they are also shared by less serious health problems such as an infection or an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Therefore, if you have any of the symptoms described, you should go and see your doctor as soon as possible so that prostate cancer can be ruled out.
